Serge Aurier has emerged as a surprise target for Real Madrid amid doubts over his Tottenham future, according to reports.
Aurier has played for Tottenham since 2017, when he joined from Paris Saint-Germain. He initially had to battle Kieran Trippier for a starting role at right-back and now faces competition from Matt Doherty. After starting 31 Premier League games last season, this time around he has managed 19.
It is still unclear whether or not Aurier will be able to add to his Tottenham tallies next season. He has long been linked with an exit, although while there is uncertainty over their next manager, it seems nothing will be decided.
Either way, the Ivorian continues to be linked with a number of big clubs. For example, there were rumours recently that Mauricio Pochettino could try to lure him back to Paris Saint-Germain for a reunion.
But another European giant considering Aurier, according to Foot Mercato, is Real Madrid.
Aurier is considering his future as the final year of his contract approaches. Madrid want to reinforce at right-back and his €12m price tag, which Tottenham have not changed since claims back in March, would seemingly be within reach for them.
The La Liga giants admire his ability to play either as a full-back in a back four, or a wing-back ahead of a back three. They have used both systems this season.
There have apparently been talks between Aurier and his former Lens teammate Raphael Varane to find out about life in the Spanish capital. Varane himself may be on the move this summer but can still offer his old teammate some advice.
Whether Madrid make a move for Aurier, only time will tell.
Tottenham to sell Sanchez
Another defender who could leave Tottenham is Davinson Sanchez. Football Insider report that Spurs will listen to offers for the Colombian this summer after four years with the club.
The 24-year-old arrived in 2017 for a fee of nearly £40m, which at the time was a club-record signing.
However, the defender has fallen out of favour this season and has not played under Ryan Mason. He has made 16 Premier League starts with his last start in April against Newcastle.
Steve Hitchen, who was chief scout when Sanchez joined in 2017, is leading the team who are identifying his replacement, per the source.

The club reportedly have a shortlist of names draw up.
Sanchez’s departure will leave just three senior centre-backs at the club – Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Joe Rodon.
Sanchez still has three years to run on his contract, but the club are unlikely to regain their investment on the former Ajax man.
