Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly conducting his own research into Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma ahead of a potential summer transfer swoop.
The Reds have a few areas worth addressing ahead of the upcoming transfer window. A new centre-back signing is supposedly on the cards, with RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate a firm target. Midfield could also need addressing, as Georginio Wijnaldum edges closer to a departure from Anfield.
As a result, several names have emerged as potential targets to fill the gap.
Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus and Rodrigo de Paul from Udinese both reportedly have admirers at Liverpool.
However, Bissouma’s name – a player much closer to home – is another player supposedly on Liverpool’s radar.
The Brighton star will have two years left on his contract at the end of the season and also has interest from Arsenal and Manchester City.
According to The Times, the Mali international has learned of the interest in his name and subsequently asked Brighton if he can find a new club this summer.
Klopp has already begun scouting the player heavily, assessing his ‘character’ and ‘off-field behaviour’.
As such, the manager is hoping to get a better idea of Bissouma’s capability to play in his team.
Nevertheless, moving to a club with Champions League football next season is reportedly the 24-year-old’s preference.
Liverpool, Arsenal facing Bissouma challenge
Thus, Liverpool and Arsenal could face a struggle to convince him; the Reds must win each of their final four games to have a chance of making the top four.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are facing up to the rare prospect of no European football next season.
But City’s interest, The Times adds, is ‘less intense’. The Etihad club are waiting to see if Fernandinho extends his contract and are assessing the price of alternatives.

Bissouma moved to Brighton from Lille in the summer of 2018 for a fee which will reach £15million once all add-on clauses are accounted for.
He has emerged as one of the brightest dynamic, box-to-box midfielders in the Premier League.
This season, he has played all but two of 35 top-flight outings, both of those absences coming through red card and cumulative yellow card suspensions.
