The current Scottish Premiership leaders are said to have sent senior scout Craig Strachan to watch Semenyo in action for the Robins against Reading last month, with West Ham also keen on the player.

The versatile 22-year-old, is comfortable operating as a central striker or in the wide positions, has less than 18 months left on his current Ashton Gate contract.

That has led to talk of a potential exit, although Bristol Live’s James Piercy claims that City have placed a £20million price tag on his head.

A potential deal for Semenyo would end up shattering Celtic’s current transfer record. The Bhoys splashed out £9m to sign Odsonne Edouard, although they did up selling the striker for a deal that could end rising to £18.5m.

That £20m price could be well and truly out of Celtic’s range though, journalist Pete O’Rourke told GiveMeSport.

He said: “I’m sure Celtic will continue to keep tabs on him. But if it comes down to pricing, I think Celtic will be priced out of it.”

Semenyo form keeps interest high Interest in Semenyo comes as no great surprise given his form this season. The attacker has notched six goals and added eight assists.

Robins boss Nigel Pearson has also previously stated that Semenyo’s ‘power and pace’ make him a ‘nightmare to play against’.

But with his price tag being so high, Celtic must now hope that Semenyo decides to stay put and run his contract down further. By doing that it will also drive done his asking price, with Bristol City loathed to lose him for nothing in 2023.
