AC Milan directors are believed to be weighing up their options after being offered the chance to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United.
Lingard endured a difficult 2019-20 campaign, having to wait until the last day of the season to score his only Premier League goal this term.
Reports have since emerged that United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deems Lingard surplus to requirements. The 27-year-old failed to start a league game after football returned in June.
While Solskjaer has not fallen out with Lingard, he does not have a place for him in his plans. And with his contract expiring next summer, United need to look to move it on.
It was then revealed that Mino Raiola was working to offer Lingard to AC Milan. The agent represents several of Milan’s key players, as well as Lingard.
Therefore, he has opened talks with the Serie A side over the England international.
Now, Calciomercato (via SempreMilan) have a fresh update on the story. The Italian outlet claims that Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are prepared to back head coach Stefano Pioli in the transfer market.
Among their priorities is to invest in four new signings – and Lingard could be one of them.
Milan are yet to confirm any interest in Lingard, but have acknowledged Raiola’s offer. While the Rossoneri have other targets in his position as well, they could still consider him.
The report also clarifies that the Red Devils have set an asking price of €15m for Lingard.
SCHOLES THINKS LINGARD COULD LEAVE Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes recently claimed that he would not be surprised to see Lingard leave.
Speaking after the Red Devils beat LASK to reach the Europa League quarter-finals, Scholes told BT Sport that Lingard has not shown enough recently to warrant a place in the starting lineup.
“I’m not totally sure [on Lingard],” he said. “I do think when he’s playing well he has something to offer.
“Lately he hasn’t been good enough really. Is he a starting XI player if you’re going to go on to win the league and the big trophies at Man United? I’m not sure he is.”
