Manchester United are interested in Genk’s giant midfielder Sander Berge, according to a report.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate for new additions to his United squad and the injury to Marcus Rashford and Wednesday’s home defeat to Burnley have only added to the need to do something in the transfer window.
The Norwegian has admitted he is looking for new signings and at the start of the month he said: “Well you can see the squad and yeah, one or two additions could do nicely.
“We are building towards something and it just depends on what we think is right for us will be available.”
Bruno Fernandes is a name being heavily linked with United, but with his agent Jorge Mendes demanding big money for the midfielder and a deal looks no nearer.
But, according to Bleacher Report, via Sports Mole, United are also planning for the summer and Solskjaer is determined to bring Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho to the club, as well as either West Ham United’s Declan Rice or Genk star Berge.
Berge, 21, who is understood to be firmly on Jurgen Klopp’s radar at Liverpool, recently opened the door to a January move by stating he would be open to leaving Genk.
Berge impressed Reds boss Klopp in Champions League action and has also been linked with Napoli.
ZG reported that Klopp had some complimentary words for Berge after the towering midfielder impressed at Anfield in November.
It was the second time in two weeks that Berge had faced Klopp’s side, having played in the 4-1 defeat to Liverpool in the reverse Champions League fixture in October.
The report stated that Klopp was impressed with the former Valerenga man and spoke to Berge at Anfield, saying: “You are an interesting player, a very interesting player.”
Berge then opened up on his future to the Belgian press.
He told Het Laatste Nieuws: “Winter or summer, every transfer period there is a lot of speculation about my future. But at the moment, there’s nothing concrete, and that’s just the truth.
“Playing Champions League with Racing Genk was a dream come true for me, but it’s not because that adventure is over that I absolutely want to leave now.
“If the right club comes forward and puts the right amount on the table for me then we can talk.
“Otherwise I’ll just stay with Racing Genk until the end of this season.”
