Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has hit back at claims that he is “overweight” after Gary Neville recently questioned his professionalism.
The 26-year-old ended his two-season stint at Old Trafford on transfer deadline day, joining Inter Milan in an 80 million euros (£73.75million) deal.
Defending United’s decision to sell the Belgium international, Neville labeled Lukaku “overweight” despite admitting that he will probably do well in Serie A.
Neville wrote on Twitter recently: “He admitted he was overweight! He is over 100kg!”
“He’s a Manchester United player! He will score goals and do well at Inter Milan but unprofessionalism is contagious.”
While Neville’s former team-mate Gary Pallister also picked out Lukaku’s weight, he said recently: “He’s too heavy. You look at the pace in the present game; maybe Ole is looking at that and saying he can’t implement that into his game for me. He was surplus to requirements.”
Lukaku hit back at Neville’s comments on social media by posting a picture of himself topless on Instagram with the caption: “not bad for a fat boy”.
That was after reports in Italy claimed he was 4kg overweight ahead of Inter Milan’s opening Serie A fixture on Monday against Lecce.
