The Chile international, 31, became one of the world’s most feared forwards during a blistering three-and-a-half year stint with Arsenal.

Man Utd came calling in 2018, but Sanchez’s form rapidly declined as he struggled to maintain the lofty standards Premier League fans were so used to seeing.

Sanchez – who Utd are reportedly ‘desperate’ to offload – was shipped out on loan to the San Siro last summer with both the clubs and player hopeful he could regain his previous form.

However, in an injury-interrupted spell, Sanchez returned just one goal and three assists from his 15 appearances this season.

Despite that, Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio has expressed his desire to extend Sanchez’s tenure in Italy beyond the initially contracted date of June 30, to ensure he sees out the season in its entirety.

“We want to keep everyone, including Alexis Sanchez,” Ausilio told Sky Sports Italia (via Sky Sports).

“We are counting on him in the coming months.

“He was out injured for quite a while, but he did well before that in matches against Barcelona and Sampdoria.

“I saw the Sanchez from his best campaigns in Udinese and Arsenal.

“He didn’t have a lot of time, but he now has the chance to show his value and then we will make a decision on him.”

Meanwhile, Rennes president Nicolas Holveck has spoken out over the possibility of Man Utd signing the club’s €60m-rated teenage sensation, Eduardo Camavinga.

The 17-year-old broke into Rennes’ first team last January and after making seven appearances before the end of last season, and has only missed five games this term.

Previous reports suggest that United have a strong interest in the France Under-21 international, proposing a deal in which the youngster is signed and loaned back to Rennes next season.

The reports claimed that such a proposition would hopefully sway Rennes into doing business with the Red Devils rather than with Real Madrid, who are also keen.
