The Blades are currently 11 points from safety after 19 Premier League games.

The defeat was their 16th loss of the campaign having been unable to build on their first league win of the season against Newcastle United on Tuesday.

Poor play from the hosts had led to several openings and goals for Tottenham throughout the 90 minutes.

Wilder told Sky Sports that he was disappointed with the result.

“I am disappointed,” he said. “We were never allowed to build on the win on Tuesday night.

“We are architects in our own downfall in my opinion. People talk about the lot of the game but you hand possession back to quality and they’re going to punish you. And we have to play a near perfect game to get any sort of result. We’ve had to do that for a season-and-a-half.

“Our performance win Tuesday night was good. To go again is difficult and key and I understand that. It’s a brutal league.

“They have to show if they want to play in this division and be Premier League players.”

The Blades boss gave testament to England captain Harry Hane, who scored his 12th league goal of the season during the game.

He said: “(I’ve got) admiration for the likes of Harry Kane that week-in week-out have a level and standard of performance that allows him to have the career that he has and allows his team to win games of football.”

Spurs move into top four

Tanguy Ndombele grabbed the headlines after netting a wonder goal in the win for Tottenham.

The 24-year-old scooped a delicious lob over opposition goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale just past the hour mark to secure the three points for Spurs.

Serge Aurier had headed in a corner to put the visitors ahead after just five minutes. Harry Kane eventually made it 2-0 not long before the interval.

Sheffield United pulled one back on 59 minutes when David McGoldrick headed in a John Fleck cross three minutes before Ndombele’s spectacular.
